Step 1: Check If You Qualify
Before you do anything, make sure you meet the basic eligibility requirements:

You must be at least 18 years old

You must be a U.S. citizen
β
You must be a resident of the Village of Menands by Election Day
π Note: You donβt need to be a resident when you start your campaign, but you must be living in Menands by Election Dayβ.
Step 2: Know the Election Timeline
The 2025 Village Election is on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Here are the critical deadlines:

May 6, 2025 β First day to file petitions.

May 13, 2025 β Last day to file petitions.

June 6, 2025 β Last day to register to vote for the election.

Campaign Finance Rules
β All candidates must report their donations and expenses.
β Campaign finance reports are due on:
- May 16, 2025 (32 days before the election).
- June 6, 2025 (11 days before the election).
π Even if you donβt raise money, you still need to file a report or a “No-Activity” statementβ.
Political Advertising Rules
β All campaign materials (flyers, posters, ads) must include:
- “Paid for by [Your Name or Campaign Committee]”
β You CAN: - Distribute flyers, run social media ads, go door-to-door.
β You CANNOT: - Campaign within 100 feet of polling places on Election Day.
